In Ethiopia:
Three lions rescued a kidnapped 12-year-old girl, Ethiopian police claim.
The kidnappers wanted to force her into marriage and had held her for seven days, repeatedly beating her, said Sergeant Wondimu Wedajo.
Then the lions chased them away and guarded her until her family and police arrived, he said from the remote region of Bita Genet, 560 kilometres south-west of Addis Ababa.
"They stood guard until we found her and then they just left her like a gift and went back into the forest..."
Others disagree with that conclusion:
...[W]ildlife experts scoffed at the accounts, saying the lions were more likely to have been intending to eat the child.

On a side note, in World War 2 military training was given to dolphins whereby they'd be equiped with an explosive head and instructed to seek out and tap "enemy divers."
