Some time after 10pm an argument started to ensue.

It would appear at some point [he] went up to the master bedroom.
[A] shooting club member, [he] picked up a double-barrelled shot gun.
During the course of an argument, for some reason, unbeknown to myself, [he] loaded a shotgun and smashed it into the ground and died from a tragic accident.
That's the way to do it: have barney; get shotgun, load shotgun; smash butt into the floor - Darwin would be impressed.
